Varda Space Industries announced a partnership with United Therapeutics to test small-molecule drug development using Varda’s in-orbit experiment platform. Varda has been sending automated capsules to space to support microgravity-based experiments designed to create and refine small-molecule crystal seeds and bring materials back to Earth for further processing. United Therapeutics is positioned to evaluate small-molecule workflows using the in-orbit technology. The collaboration signals growing interest in space-based manufacturing and formulation improvements—specifically, the ability to generate larger and more uniform crystals that may affect solubility and dosing requirements—while still acknowledging the technical and execution risks of scaling such workflows.
