Osaka Metropolitan University developed a laser-assisted system using “laser-powered beads” to detect CEACAM-5 in diluted blood plasma within minutes. The approach targets low-abundance biomarker detection and could shorten time-to-result compared with conventional workflows. Rapid, sensitive biomarker assays are a persistent need for colorectal cancer screening and early detection pathways. If the system proves robust across sample types and pre-analytical variables, it may inform next-generation point-of-care or near-care diagnostics development.
