A new preclinical study in BMC Medicine reports that intranasally delivered recombinant BMP2/6 proteins delayed dopaminergic neuron degeneration and improved motor function in mouse models of Parkinsonian pathology. The approach focuses on protecting vulnerable neurons rather than directly reversing established loss. If the mechanism translates, intranasal delivery could offer a practical route to reach the central nervous system without invasive dosing. The findings also position BMP2/6 as a candidate neuroprotective axis for follow-on studies in models that better reflect progressive disease.
