Elon Musk’s brain-computer interface company, Neuralink, has labeled itself a “small disadvantaged business” (SDB) in an April federal filing, despite recently raising $650 million at a $9 billion valuation. The SDB designation can provide preferential access to federal contracts and is defined by ownership and control by individuals considered socially and economically disadvantaged. The filing has raised questions given Musk's status as one of the wealthiest individuals globally. Neuralink aims to develop technologies to assist patients with paralysis and integrate biological with artificial intelligence.
