Researchers tied to the National Institutes of Health’s Human Cancer Models Initiative unveiled a major expansion of patient-derived 3D tumor resources. The effort adds hundreds of next-generation models—including organoids with genomic, clinical, and functional annotations—aimed at revealing dependencies cancers rely on to survive. The collection, described as one of the largest publicly available sets of 3D human tumor models, is being made available to researchers across the UK and beyond in connection with Wellcome Sanger Institute-led work and clinical collaborators. Published output focuses on how the biobank can be used to map vulnerabilities and support precision therapy development.
