Moderna and Merck reported positive Phase 3 topline results for their mRNA cancer vaccine intismeran autogene in an individualized neoantigen therapy regimen. In the INTerpath-001 study (1,137 volunteers), patients receiving intismeran plus Merck’s Keytruda (pembrolizumab) showed improved recurrence-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival versus Keytruda alone. The announcement has renewed attention on personalized mRNA approaches in melanoma after skepticism from investors. Beyond the companies, the result also lifted sentiment toward sequencing-related suppliers due to the genomics-intensive nature of building individualized neoantigen vaccines.
