Maryland’s Department of Health awarded more than $520,000 to 18 groups of fire departments to run multi-cancer early detection screening using 20/20 BioLabs’ OneTest blood-based assay. The program will cover more than 1,400 firefighters, with testing expected in April or May. 20/20 BioLabs said it is also pursuing Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services coverage for OneTest for Cancer, which combines protein tumor markers with machine-learning-based analysis. The company’s stated aim is to generate real-world evidence from at least 20,000 tested firefighters to support upcoming FDA and CMS discussions. For the MCED field, reimbursement and coverage pathways are pivotal; state-funded pilots can become the empirical bridge needed for payer conversations and national scaling.
