Ipsen agreed to acquire Memo Therapeutics for about €700 million (US$797 million) upfront for potravitug, a monoclonal antibody candidate targeting BK virus-associated infections and nephropathy in immune-compromised kidney transplant patients. Ipsen expects to start a pivotal Phase 2/3 trial later this year based on potravitug Phase 2 results showing viral load suppression and biopsy-proven nephropathy resolution. As part of the deal, employees and assets unrelated to potravitug will be spun into a separate company, Memorises Bio, owned by Memo shareholders. The acquisition comes shortly after Ipsen announced an additional large transaction to expand its rare disease portfolio. For transplant care, potravitug addresses a setting with limited targeted options and may offer a new evidence-based path to reduce BK polyomavirus complications.
