Eli Lilly signed a discovery-stage collaboration with Beijing-based InnoCare Pharma worth up to $3.35 billion, continuing the company’s strategy of sourcing oncology and other candidates from China. The agreement uses InnoCare’s drug discovery platform to identify and advance compounds against up to five undisclosed targets. Under the deal structure, Lilly would pay up to $100 million in upfront and near-term payments, with additional development and milestone payments that could reach $3.25 billion, plus royalties on net sales of resulting products. The collaboration reinforces Lilly’s pace of China-origin licensing and partnership activity in recent months. The announcement also fits a broader industry pattern of large pharma building multi-year option value from platform-based discovery players, with measurable milestone-driven economics designed to transfer risk and accelerate candidate selection.
