The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Innovative Genomics Institute have jointly funded a new Center for Pediatric CRISPR Cures with a $20 million grant. The center aims to advance personalized CRISPR gene-editing therapies targeting rare pediatric genetic diseases. Building on prior success treating an infant with a rare metabolic condition via personalized cell editing, the Center seeks to develop standardized processes for delivering CRISPR-based on-demand treatments. Initial efforts will focus on treating children with severe inborn errors of immunity and metabolic disorders, with plans to expand access over time.
