Novartis agreed to an exclusive worldwide licensing deal with Abogen Biosciences for the company’s mRNA-encoded CD19xCD3 T-cell engager ABO2203. The transaction includes $575 million upfront and potential development, regulatory, and commercial milestones that could bring total value to roughly $7.8 billion. Abogen positions ABO2203 as an in vivo mRNA approach designed to reset B cells through depletion rather than using a recombinant protein. Novartis said it views mRNA-encoded T-cell engagers as an “innovative approach” that could complement existing modalities across autoimmune disease. The deal underscores how large-cap pharma is using late-stage partnership structures to accelerate access to novel platform technologies originating outside the U.S. and Europe—while shifting development risk via milestone-based economics.
