Alamar Biosciences and Nightingale Health launched UK Biobank Proteomics for Risk Identification and Signatures of brain health in Midlife (UKB-PRISM), a study designed to test whether ultrasensitive protein measurements can flag neurodegeneration years before symptoms. Nightingale will run assays using Alamar’s NULISA platform, which pairs antibodies tagged with DNA oligonucleotides and reads out reporters by next-generation sequencing. Backers include the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Alzheimer’s Research UK, and LifeArc, with completion expected by the end of 2027. The companies said the study will evaluate candidate biomarkers and help inform future therapeutic research. The program’s scale—measuring hundreds of proteins across tens of thousands of samples—puts platform proteomics at the center of early detection efforts for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
