Incyte agreed to acquire Vega Therapeutics for up to $2 billion, aiming to extend its hematology growth engine with a Phase 3 von Willebrand disease (VWD) candidate. Vega’s VGA039 is positioned as a potential first-in-class subcutaneous prophylactic option with once-monthly, self-administered dosing—contrasting with current IV factor-based regimens that typically require more frequent clinic or infusion schedules. VGA039 is designed to modulate Protein S to improve hemostasis, and it is being tested in the global Phase 3 VIVID-6 trial. Incyte said the trial’s estimated completion is October 2028, with data expected in early 2029, making the asset a mid-to-late runway bet for the buyer. The deal reinforces a broader M&A pattern in hematology where manufacturers seek late-stage, differentiated dosing strategies to defend against future patent pressure and to build longer-lived franchises.
