OnVagus received approval to begin the first human trial of its noninvasive vagus nerve-stimulation device for cancer-related wasting at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The program targets cachexia symptoms by modulating neural pathways without implanted hardware. The milestone matters because wasting remains a high-unmet-need complication with limited effective interventions, and neuromodulation is one of the few approaches with a plausible mechanistic bridge between inflammation, appetite regulation, and energy metabolism. For medtech and therapeutics developers, the trial start provides a near-term clinical testing point that could validate whether noninvasive neuromodulation can improve meaningful endpoints in cachexia beyond symptom management.
