AbCellera expanded its T-cell engager footprint by entering a collaboration with Vertex Pharmaceuticals focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing multispecific T-cell engagers for autoimmune diseases and other indications. Vertex will fund research and development costs and hold rights to develop and commercialize the resulting therapeutics, while AbCellera will lead discovery and early development activities. The agreement includes $28 million in total upfront payments plus milestone payments and tiered royalties on net sales, with an option for AbCellera to support cell line development, process development, and clinical manufacturing through Phase 1. The deal reflects Vertex’s broader push to diversify beyond its cystic fibrosis-centric pipeline. For AbCellera, this is its second Vertex-related milestone deal for the summer, reinforcing demand for multispecific engagers that can be engineered for specific immunobiology and safety control.
