An Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) and West Health joint report found that drug launch prices continued to top $250,000 in 2025, with a median annual net price of $257,000 after inflation adjustments. The analysis also reported ongoing access barriers, including a large share of prescriptions rejected due to coverage and new-to-market blocks. The report said about one-third of outpatient prescriptions were filled within 30 days of first attempt during the first year after approval. It also highlighted coverage differences across payers, with substantially lower fill rates for Medicare versus commercial and Medicaid populations. For biotech and pharma teams, the findings emphasize that pricing is now closely tied to payer workflows and utilization management, affecting early market uptake as much as clinical differentiation.
