Scientists at Oregon Health & Science University achieved a pioneering milestone by generating fertilizable eggs from human skin cells in vitro. Using somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) combined with mechanisms integrating mitosis and meiosis, researchers transformed nonreproductive somatic cells into viable oocytes. This breakthrough opens new possibilities for treating infertility and studying human developmental biology. The work provides a novel platform for reproductive medicine, potentially enabling people with infertility due to various causes to have genetically related children in the future.
