ARPA-H launched funding under its BioStabilization Systems (BoSS) program, committing up to $87 million over four years across teams tackling room-temperature stabilization for cell-based biologics. Phase I awards include work to stabilize cells for storage and then reactivate them on demand without refrigeration. The Reversible Ambient Temperature (RAB) team, led by Likarda (technical lead) and Draper (administrative lead), will pursue hydrogel- and AI-assisted design of experiments approaches, including freeze-assisted droplet drying and scalable bioprocess engineering. The program targets a major bottleneck for access and logistics in cell therapy.
