New mouse data published in Nature suggests semaglutide started in old age can reverse hallmarks of aging and extend lifespan. In the study, female mice treated with semaglutide in late middle age showed about a 12% median lifespan increase versus age-matched saline controls, alongside cognitive and metabolic benefits. The work positions GLP-1 receptor agonism as more than a cardiometabolic therapy, linking the longevity signal to outcomes typically associated with calorie restriction. It also adds to a growing evidence base that GLP-1 drugs may modulate multiple aging-related pathways relevant to neurocognition and metabolic function.
