Genomics England said it will work with Lifebit to develop a trusted research environment for studies in cancer and rare disease, using secure digital workspaces designed to keep sensitive genomic data within controlled environments. The organizations plan to design, build and test the environment over the next year, aiming to make it available to researchers sometime next year. Trusted research environments are intended to enable data sharing and computational analysis without exporting raw data. Genomics England framed the partnership as an infrastructure investment supporting translation of discoveries into healthcare and accelerating progress toward personalized medicine. Lifebit previously supported similar secure workspaces, including lung cancer-related data management with Troper Wojcicki Philanthropies and a secure platform for Israel’s Psifas Initiative. For biotech and academia, the move highlights continued focus on data governance and compute access as a prerequisite for large-scale genomics-driven discovery.
