Sangamo Therapeutics filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and moved to sell major parts of its technology portfolio. In asset-sale agreements, Eli Lilly is set to acquire Sangamo’s capsid delivery platform, zinc finger nuclease (ZFN) platform, modular integrase (MINT) platform, and prion disease program ST-506, while Astellas will take over Sangamo’s Fabry disease program isaralgagene civaparvovec (ST-920). Sangamo also said other programs, including parts of its clinical pipeline such as ST-503 for chronic neuropathic pain, are expected to remain available for interested bidders in a future court auction. The company cited a need for a disciplined and efficient process to maximize value for stakeholders. For the gene-editing ecosystem, the moves highlight ongoing consolidation pressure as platform developers seek liquidity and pharma buyers target delivery and editing toolkits with established scientific pedigrees.
