Circular Genomics said it is testing whether retinal imaging risk stratification—an “oculomics” approach—can improve the performance of its circRNA-based Alzheimer's screening and progression assays. The company is collaborating with Vitazi.AI to clinically validate retinal-scan patient risk stratification alongside Circular’s circular RNA biomarker signature. Circular emphasized that two FDA-cleared blood-based Alzheimer’s assays exist today but can be sensitive without being highly specific, potentially leading to more follow-up work in patients where disease does not emerge. Its circRNA platform is built on stable circular RNA fragments enriched in brain tissue and shed into the bloodstream via extracellular vesicles. The company said it obtained exclusive commercial rights tied to Alzheimer’s circRNA biomarker intellectual property and is leveraging multi-cohort evidence for a 34-circRNA signature that predicted progression in earlier published work.
