Alamar Biosciences and Nightingale Health partnered with UK Biobank for UK Biobank Proteomics for Risk Identification and Signatures of brain health in Midlife (UKB-PRISM), a proteomics effort aimed at capturing ultrasensitive protein signals linked to neurodegeneration risk. The work will measure hundreds of circulating proteins across 80,000 blood samples using Alamar’s NULISA platform. The project is funded by the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Alzheimer’s Research UK and LifeArc, and is expected to run through the end of 2027. NULISA uses DNA oligonucleotide reporters attached to antibodies in an immuno-sandwich format, with DNA readout by next-generation sequencing. Alamar said the study is designed to support biomarker evaluation years before symptom onset, with UK Biobank emphasizing the biological roles of proteins in inflammation regulation and tissue repair as a rationale for the approach.
