NewBiologix and Synastra Biotechnology agreed to develop a stable producer cell line for Synastra’s investigational Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) AAV gene therapy program. NewBiologix will use its Xcell stable manufacturing platform to create and characterize a research cell bank, with an option to transition to a commercial license for future clinical and commercial manufacturing. The companies framed the work around reproducible, scalable rAAV production—an especially critical factor for DMD and systemic gene therapy where vector doses can be among the highest in the field. By replacing repeated transient transfection with genetically engineered producer cell lines, the collaboration targets consistency and cost reduction early in development. Synastra brings experience in genomic engineering, AAV vector design, and translational development, while NewBiologix contributes stable cell engineering and rAAV manufacturing technologies. The partnership is designed to support progression toward clinical translation and eventual commercial supply.
