The deal covers process optimization, IND-enabling work, and clinical-stage cGMP manufacturing—steering the program from research-grade production toward trial readiness. The therapy is designed to deliver Pdx1 and MafA genes to convert pancreatic alpha cells into beta-like, insulin-producing cells for type 1 diabetes, while for type 2 diabetes it aims to replenish and rejuvenate exhausted beta cells. Genprex cited preclinical findings in mouse models and nonhuman primates as justification for advancing the manufacturing transition. With AAV supply and batch consistency often determining whether IND-enabling timelines slip, the partnership places manufacturing capability as a near-term development priority ahead of clinical milestones.
