NewBiologix and Synastra Biotechnology agreed to develop a stable producer cell line for Synastra’s investigational Duchenne muscular dystrophy rAAV gene therapy program. Under the agreement, NewBiologix will use its Xcell stable manufacturing platform to generate and characterize a research cell bank intended to support reproducible, scalable rAAV production. The collaboration combines Synastra’s work in genomic engineering, AAV vector design and translational development with NewBiologix’ rAAV manufacturing technologies. The companies said the program is designed to address key manufacturing bottlenecks early, with an option to transition to a commercial license supporting later clinical and commercial manufacturing. For DMD gene therapy—where systemic dosing can require high vector quantities—stable producer approaches are increasingly viewed as critical to scaling capacity and controlling cost across programs.
