Superluminal Medicines raised an oversubscribed $60 million Series B to advance an AI-powered GPCR platform and initiate its first clinical trial by year-end. The company’s lead candidate is a selective, biased melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) agonist aimed at rare genetic forms of obesity, including hypothalamic obesity. Backed by BVF Partners and joined by investors including Eli Lilly, Superluminal said its funding supports transitioning from discovery to clinical development with Phase I planned before the end of 2026. The program targets MC4R signaling with a bias strategy designed to maximize therapeutic activity while reducing side effects. The financing also signals continued investor willingness to fund modality differentiation in obesity, particularly where label-relevant, genetically defined patient populations may offer clearer clinical endpoints than broad metabolic indications.
