The Gates Foundation is investing up to $35 million in ProFound Therapeutics to identify biomarkers, drug targets, and candidate therapies for preeclampsia and eclampsia. The funding includes an initial $20 million and will support work using ProFound’s ProFoundry Platform to analyze proteins expressed in placenta and serum from affected patients. ProFound will also develop a preeclampsia/eclampsia AI tool using its expanded-proteome approach, which focuses on proteins outside canonical coding regions. The program frames the maternal-neurologic and cardiovascular risks of these conditions as still chronically underserved in therapeutic development and diagnosis.
