Freenome reported updated clinical validation results for its SimpleScreen CRC blood test, describing improved detection of advanced precancerous lesions while overall sensitivity dipped modestly versus the prior version. The updated test was evaluated in the registrational PREEMPT CRC study using blinded samples. Across 200+ sites, Freenome analyzed results from 48,995 average-risk adults scheduled for screening colonoscopy. The updated test showed overall sensitivity of 80.4%, with sensitivity of 18.2% for advanced precancerous lesions (APLs) and 41.9% for APLs with high-grade dysplasia. Specificity was 90%. Freenome said the changes would translate into incremental gains in life-years, cancer prevention, and cancer deaths averted relative to its earlier test, while stakeholders reacted as mixed given the reduced overall sensitivity metric.
