Fortrea agreed to buy Worldwide Clinical Trials’ early phase services business in a $45 million transaction, aiming to add early clinical pharmacology and bioanalytical capacity to support sponsor demand. The acquisition adds three Texas facilities, including a 200-bed clinical pharmacology unit in San Antonio, a bioanalytical lab in Austin, and a biospecimen storage site in Pflugerville. Fortrea said the move is intended to create a more cohesive early development experience for large- and small-molecule programs. Worldwide indicated the sale will help accelerate investment in late-stage services and technology while expanding geographic coverage. For the CRO market, the deal is another consolidation step targeting end-to-end capability in early development, a segment sponsors increasingly evaluate as timelines and operational flexibility become differentiators.
