Thailand launched the TARGETS first-in-human trial of an autologous second-generation GD2-targeted CAR T-cell therapy for relapsed or refractory GD2-positive solid tumors. The prospective, open-label phase I/IIa basket study plans to enroll about 20 patients across multiple centers. The protocol targets pediatric cancers where CAR T success remains limited compared with leukemia and lymphoma, including neuroblastoma, glioma, and osteosarcoma. GD2, a tumor-associated ganglioside expressed across several aggressive pediatric malignancies, is being pursued as a surface antigen to drive cell-based cytotoxicity. Regulatory steps also stand out: the protocol was accepted by BMC Cancer and registered in the Thai Clinical Trials Registry (TCTR20251222009). For the CAR T market, the trial underscores continued global expansion into solid-tumor settings and the continued reliance on GD2 as a key immunotherapy handle.
