Amygdala Neurosciences received FDA IND approval for ANS-858, a selective, reversible, orally bioavailable ALDH2 inhibitor initially designed for alcohol use disorder and other substance use disorders. The company said it plans a Phase 1 trial intended to support subsequent Phase 2 evaluations across multiple indications. ALDH2 inhibition targets acetaldehyde metabolism, a mechanism commonly linked to alcohol-related physiology and intolerance. Amygdala said its next milestone will be generating initial human safety and pharmacokinetic data in Phase 1. The IND clearance accelerates ANS-858’s clinical runway and positions the program as another attempt to translate metabolic pathway targeting into disease-modifying addiction therapeutics.
