Cepheid received CE marking under the EU IVDR framework for its Xpert GI Panel, a multiplex PCR test intended to identify 11 gastrointestinal pathogens from a single stool sample in about 74 minutes. The panel is designed for GeneXpert systems equipped with 10-color technology and requires less than a minute of hands-on time. The test covers multiple bacterial pathogens, including Campylobacter species, STEC, Salmonella, Shigella/EIEC, and Yersinia enterocolitica, along with parasites (Giardia and Cryptosporidium) and norovirus. Cepheid said the panel is meant to support clinicians when overlapping symptoms complicate single-pathogen testing and when rapid, broader detection can guide treatment and outbreak containment. Cepheid noted the Xpert GI Panel already has FDA 510(k) clearance, and said it will begin shipping to countries that accept the CE mark in the coming weeks. The CE IVDR approval positions Cepheid to compete in EU labs adopting IVDR-compliant syndromic testing workflows.
