SK Biopharmaceuticals agreed to acquire Biohaven’s epilepsy drug opakalim (BHV-7000) in a deal valued at up to $795 million, including $350 million at closing and $50 million due in 2027. The therapy is a selective Kv7.2/7.3 potassium channel activator in Phase II/III development for focal epilepsy. Biohaven said the commercial strategy leverages SK’s existing epilepsy infrastructure, which includes a neurology field force and payer/formulary coverage built around antiseizure medicines. SK positioned the acquisition as a way to reduce the ramp-up time that Biohaven would face moving toward commercialization independently. The transaction further emphasizes how mature specialty commercial capabilities are increasingly used to accelerate the pathway for later-stage epilepsy assets.
