A Thai pharmacokinetic study in 55 critically ill patients established a two-compartment dosing model suggesting that 12 grams of sulbactam per day—adjusted for kidney function—can achieve antibiotic exposure targets against carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. The work adds quantitative support to dosing strategies for a pathogen with high mortality and limited therapeutic options. In practice, pharmacokinetic mapping can help clinicians move beyond fixed dosing when renal function and critical illness substantially alter drug exposure.
