Novartis licensed Alteogen’s ALT-B4 (berahyaluronidase alfa) subcutaneous drug delivery technology in a deal worth up to $3.2 billion. The agreement provides Novartis option rights to develop and commercialize multiple products using the platform, expanding a growing set of pharma partnerships around hyaluronidase-enabled faster biologic absorption. ALT-B4 is intended to replace slow intravenous infusion workflows with subcutaneous administration by temporarily breaking down hyaluronan in the extracellular matrix under the skin. Novartis becomes the latest major drugmaker to adopt ALT-B4 as companies push for more convenient dosing formats. The deal also ties into broader platform consolidation in oncology and other specialties, where formulation convenience can influence prescriber adoption, site workflow, and patient adherence—especially as antibody-based regimens proliferate.
