Leica Biosystems expanded availability of its Aperio GT Elite AI-enabled digital pathology scanner across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa after a March U.S. launch. Leica said the system is designed for high-throughput laboratory workflows and includes embedded SmartScan technology to automate scan settings via barcode-driven intelligence. Leica highlighted throughput of up to 103 slides per hour and scan times as fast as 22 seconds per slide. In addition, when paired with Aperio iQC software, the platform adds AI-powered quality control that detects common whole-slide imaging artifacts while slides are still on the scanner to reduce rescans. The company positioned the EMEA rollout as a response to demand for connected digital and computational pathology workflows, particularly in research settings looking to scale adoption.
