Leica Biosystems and Versant Diagnostics expanded their collaboration as PRW Laboratories became the first lab network to deploy Leica’s Aperio GT Elite solution. The high-throughput scanner is designed for time-critical digital pathology workflows, integrating LIS data and supporting automated scanning protocols based on tissue and stain criteria. Versant Diagnostics previously used Leica’s Aperio GT 450 for whole-slide digitization alongside Indica Labs’ HALO AP software for image management. The new deployment aims to reduce manual steps and rework while accelerating “slide to insight” decisions. The announcement highlights how digital pathology adoption is shifting toward scalable systems that can handle fast turnaround, operational reliability, and connectivity with lab information systems. These factors are increasingly important as AI-enabled analytics become more integrated into pathology workflows. For labs, the Aperio GT Elite deployment is a concrete signal that competitive differentiation in pathology is moving from isolated pilots to production-grade infrastructure.
