Maryland’s Department of Health awarded more than $520,000 through a firefighter grant program to expand multi-cancer early detection (MCED) screening using 20/20 BioLabs’ OneTest assay. The funding supports 18 groups of fire departments and will help test more than 1,400 firefighters in April or May. 20/20 BioLabs said the project represents a 225% increase in funded assays compared with 2025 and plans to seek CMS coverage for OneTest for Cancer, which combines protein tumor marker measurements with machine-learning analysis. The company also positioned the MCED effort as generating real-world evidence for FDA and CMS discussions. The move adds practical momentum for MCED adoption beyond trials, while setting the stage for payer conversations on coverage and how screening programs validate performance in working populations.
