A team at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) developed TEMPO, a one-pot nucleic-acid testing platform intended to bring laboratory sensitivity to at-home use. The approach produces results comparable to professional lab tests in as little as 30 minutes by using a single reaction tube. The method targets a common gap between rapid tests and lab-based nucleic-acid diagnostics, where usability and time often trade off against analytical performance. TEMPO is positioned for infectious disease surveillance and genetic screening use cases. If validated at scale, the platform could reduce complexity in molecular testing by shortening workflow steps and minimizing sample handling.
