Transformative Biotech unveiled extraction-free PCR chemistry designed to remove a key bottleneck in molecular testing workflows, targeting faster and cheaper infectious disease diagnostics. The company says its patented buffer chemistry supports room-temperature storage and can enable workflows that reduce or eliminate the nucleic-acid extraction step. In addition to offering the chemistry to diagnostic developers, Transformative is building a handheld testing device concept (@Anywhere) intended to run from a smartphone-like interface. The company estimates a target device cost around $50 and a per-test cost near $10. The approach matters for biotech deployment because sample preparation has often limited throughput and usability for PCR outside centralized labs, particularly for high-volume screening and at-home testing models.
