BioMérieux submitted updated gastrointestinal FilmArray panels to the FDA for 510(k) review, updating pathogen coverage and norovirus detection while targeting faster time-to-results. The GI1.1 Panel and GI1.1 Panel Mid are PCR-based assays built for the company’s BioFire FilmArray 2.0 and Torch systems, with results available in about an hour. In parallel, Roche launched the Axelios 1 sequencing platform with a commercial rollout starting this week, aimed at accuracy, speed, flexibility, and cost efficiency. The move is intended to challenge Illumina’s installed base and could shift sequencing workflow economics for labs that adopt new instrument platforms. Together, these updates reflect how biotech-adjacent tools—from lab diagnostics to sequencing hardware—are increasingly competing on speed, sensitivity, and operational integration as regulators and clinicians demand more actionable molecular results.
