Bio-Techne and Refeyn launched an integrated workflow combining MauriceFlex imaging capillary isoelectric focusing (icIEF) with Refeyn’s TwoMP mass photometry platform. The goal is to let researchers correlate charge heterogeneity with molecular weight and aggregation at single-molecule resolution in a four-hour workflow. The collaboration is aimed at faster, higher-confidence characterization for bispecific antibodies and biosimilars, where charge and size variants can drive manufacturing risk and late-stage clinical surprises. Refeyn said the combined workflow uses nanogram-level samples and supports single-molecule aggregation readouts within charge-resolved fractions. For biopharma process development teams, the promise is fewer standalone tests and reduced sample burden, potentially tightening feedback loops in formulation and manufacturing development. The workflow also targets a technical bottleneck: standalone methods typically cannot link charge variant separation directly to aggregation behavior without additional orthogonal assays.
