Tiny hybrid micelles increased corneal delivery of the antibiotic ofloxacin, producing an eightfold higher transcorneal flux and sustained release over ten hours in ex vivo sheep cornea tests, according to the study described in the news brief. The formulation used optimized TPGS–Poloxamer 188 hybrid nanomicelles. The approach addresses a practical barrier in ocular antibiotics: maintaining therapeutic concentrations at the cornea while minimizing dosing frequency and improving drug penetration. Ex vivo performance suggests potential next steps toward in vivo pharmacokinetics and clinical translation. For ophthalmic development programs, micelle-based delivery platforms may offer a way to enhance local exposure without changing systemic safety profiles as dramatically as high-dose regimens.
