A nationwide South Korean study of more than 100,000 dialysis patients found strong protection from full COVID-19 vaccination against both SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe outcomes. The researchers reported a 53% reduction in infection risk and about a 70% reduction in severe disease or death. The signal is particularly relevant because dialysis patients have high baseline risk and often respond differently to vaccines. The study supports vaccination as an effective risk-reduction strategy in a population where prevention can translate into fewer hospitalizations and deaths. The findings also add to the evidence base that full vaccination status remains a meaningful stratifier of outcomes in high-risk clinical groups.
