Concordia University announced a CFI‑backed $5 million upgrade to its Genome Foundry and bioprocessing facilities to expand sustainable biomanufacturing capacity. The investment, matched by Quebec’s Ministry of Higher Education, upgrades synthetic biology, cell engineering and pilot bioprocess capabilities to accelerate translation of academic discoveries into scalable bio-based products. University leaders framed the expansion as a hub for industry partnerships and scale‑up of greener chemicals, alternative proteins and therapeutic biologics. The facilities will enable start‑ups and SMEs to access end‑to‑end infrastructure—from design to pilot—aiming to shorten commercialization timelines and foster workforce development in synthetic biology and bioprocessing.
