Roche stopped work on two Huntington’s gene-silencing programs after disappointing data, including Ionis-partnered tominersen, the company told patient groups. Roche said tominersen did not delay disease progression versus placebo in a phase 2 trial, while another candidate, RG6496, was discontinued after a safety concern emerged from animal testing. Roche’s internal decision-making also included managing participant transition and continuing work on its remaining Huntington’s gene therapy program, RG6662, which it said remains ongoing as planned. The move underscores how antisense and gene-silencing approaches continue to face high bar for clinical efficacy in Huntington’s, even when target engagement and biomarker effects are achieved.
