GSK is stopping work on camlipixant, a P2X3 receptor antagonist acquired from Bellus Health, after mixed Phase III results in adults with refractory chronic cough. Calm-1 met its primary endpoint at week 12 with statistically significant reductions in 24-hour cough frequency, but Calm-2 missed key thresholds at week 24, and a lower dose failed to achieve targets in either trial. Across the studies, the incidence and severity of treatment-related adverse events were broadly similar to placebo. The decision marks another respiratory setback for GSK, closing the loop on a program once positioned to support potential blockbuster growth within its cough portfolio.
