Researchers at UTMB reported that an Andes hantavirus mRNA vaccine provides full protection after a single dose in a golden Syrian hamster model. The work, published in The Lancet, builds on earlier two-dose efficacy data and tests a single-dose approach designed for fast-moving outbreak conditions. In the model, the vaccine achieved 100% protection against a lethal viral challenge after one shot, with efficacy preserved even at substantially reduced dosing. The team said it is preparing to fast-track the single-dose regimen into human clinical trials.
