A randomized controlled trial in China tested whether supervised resistance exercise can improve outcomes for breast cancer survivors living with lymphedema. After eight weeks, patients receiving progressively loaded resistance training alongside compression garments saw significant reductions in arm swelling and also improved anxiety measures versus control. The study positions structured strength training as a potentially scalable adjunct for lymphedema care, where current standard approaches often emphasize compression, manual drainage, and activity encouragement without standardized loading protocols. Clinically, the combined strategy also highlights patient-centered endpoints beyond limb volume—using psychosocial measures as part of the evaluation.
